Singpatong Muay Thai Gym
The head coach of the Pro-team in the foreground and my trainer looking at his phone in the background. I wish I had some images of him with his favourite bamboo stick, witch he used on many occasions to beat me when I did my routines wrong, after being hit with a hard bamboo stick a few times, one learns the routines.
In the gym sometimes there are 3-4 generations of fighters.
My trainer, laughing because i almost puked after a pad session. These Thai trainers are serial killers. Im sure of it.
The owner of the gym Mr. Somsak Junlaka, a former professional fighter and is also one of the main promoters for the prestigious Lumpinee stadium.
The fighters start very young and train most of their life, no school no vacation, 6 days a week, up to 8 hours a day of training. That includes a 20km run and 2 times of 4 hours of fight training.
it is not uncommon for 13 year olds to have 50-100 professional fights under their belts.
The grandfather trains the younger fighters
The boys that train there are sometimes only as young as 7 yrs old. All fighting in professional fights.
Some come from the city, but most come from villages around Phuket and they very often are the only source of income for their families. And most often they do not have any accommodation while training so they sleep on the mats in the gym during the night.
two time Lumpinee champion Rafi Bohic trains at the Gym along with a large group of foreign fighters.
